Partner kit · Typical topologies

Four typical topologies, from the studio flat to the whole estate

For planners: the network and radio topology of the system, shown for the four configurations found in real projects. Each diagram is followed by its table of links: medium, constraint, responsible trade. The exact positions and quantities for your project appear in the provisions drawing, drawn up by Neolia once it has checked your drawings.

TOPOLOGY 2 · SEVERAL ENTRANCES

One plant room, one door station per stairwell

SHARED PLANT ROOM Building internet router just one for the entire site PoE switch one port per door station LoRaWAN gateway often just one for the whole site CAT 6 · POE · MAX 100 M EACH Door station · Entrance A + door release and local supply Door station · Entrance B + door release and local supply Door station · Entrance C + door release and local supply

The router, the PoE switch and the gateway are shared: only the Cat 6 cable multiplies, one per door station, each limited to 100 m. If a stairwell is too far from the plant room, the opening schedule provides for the intermediate distribution point. On price, the count is per stairwell. On new builds, the active equipment is priced within the electrical works package, to the references we specify. On renovations, from 8 units per stairwell, the equipment and its installation work are at our expense, and below that threshold 2,000 CHF per stairwell, once. Everything else is shared at no extra cost.

PlanningAllow for the Cat 6 routing in the project's existing ducts: no dedicated network, they follow the standard extra-low voltage route.
TOPOLOGY 3 · LARGE BUILDING OR SEVERAL BLOCKS

Two gateways, decided on the drawings

BLOCK A · PLANT ROOM Router just one for the whole site ETHERNET Gateway 1 mid-level COVERAGE BLOCK A CAT 6 LEFT READY IN STRUCTURAL WORK BLOCK B · HIGH POINT OF THE RISER Gateway 2 if the micro-survey calls for it COVERAGE BLOCK B The Neolia micro-survey sets the exact number of gateways and spare cables when it checks the drawings.

As soon as the building is long, tall, split into several blocks or built in dense concrete, the micro-survey may call for a second gateway: all it takes is a Cat 6 cable left ready at the defined point (high point of the riser, roof space, another block) and a 230 V supply. With no effect on the price: the number of gateways is a survey parameter, not a chargeable option. If in doubt at drawing stage, run the spare Cat 6: it costs a few francs during structural work and saves drilling later.

RULE OF THUMBTo size on the drawings, allow about 4 to 5 levels and 1500 to 2000 m² per floor per gateway. These are guides, not a threshold: the real range depends on the concrete, the geometry and the metal masses, and a standard building commonly runs on a single gateway. The micro-survey decides and sets the exact number, with no effect on the price.
TOPOLOGY 4 · WIRED M‑BUS VARIANT

If the project requires wired infrastructure

PLANT ROOM Building internet router identical in every topology M‑Bus concentrator wired reading · connected to the router M‑BUS RISER · 2 WIRES · BUS TOPOLOGY FLOOR SERVICE DUCTS M‑Bus meters · floor 2 spurred off the riser M‑Bus meters · floor 1 spurred off the riser M‑Bus meters · ground floor

An existing stock of M‑Bus meters, or a client who prefers wiring: readings then come through a 2-wire M‑Bus riser and a concentrator in the plant room. Everything else is identical: PoE door station, platform, statements, resident app. This variant brings back the metering wiring that the LoRaWAN topology removes: it mainly makes sense in a refurbishment, when the riser is already there.

MixedBoth worlds can coexist on the same project: existing M‑Bus meters read by a concentrator, new meters and sensors on LoRaWAN.

Your project fits none of these cases?

Send us your drawings: Neolia runs the coverage micro-survey and sends back the exact topology and the project's provisions drawing. Free of charge, on any project under study.
